Leadership Training

First, read about the Leadership Weekends, and then fill out the form at the bottom. 

New Leaders Dates:  March 3-5, 2017

First-time leaders:

  • Register in the Chico Dining Hall between 5:15 and 6 pm on Friday, March 3, 2017.
  • Bring money or a check for $30 made payable to Camp Winnataska, and a health form, drug policy consent form, voluntary disclosure statement and background check consent form. (NOTE: Parents must sign, print these out at home and fill the out!)
  • You will check in at the Chico Dining Hall and then walk your stuff to your sleeping quarters.
  • Dinner will be served at 6:30.  After 6:30 pm, late leaders can check in at the dining hall. (Bring your stuff to the dining hall.)
  • We'll officially begin at 7 pm, so if you are coming from further away, and it is easier to eat on the road, that's fine.
  • If you will be arriving at a time other than the 5:30 - 6 pm window, please indicate this on the form.
  • If you arrive after 6:15 pm, walk your stuff to Chico Dining Hall. Check in with an adult volunteer. You will take your stuff to your sleeping quarters after our training is over.
  • Carpooling is encouraged!

Departure:

  • CPR will be offered on Sunday morning.  Staying for the class is optional, but certification REQUIRED to be a leader.
  • Leaders not staying for any CPR will be dismissed after living quarters are cleaned and inspected, probably between 10:30 and 11 am.
  • Leaders staying for the CPR course will be dismissed between 12 and 12:30 pm. 
  • Note: The dismissal times above are approximate and depend on several factors.
  • Leaders will be able to use their cell phones to arrange for parent pick-up.

CPR March 5th: 

We will offer a CPR class on Sunday morning, March 5th.

  • Staying for the class is optional, but all leaders, staff members and directors need to be CPR-certified before camp.  
  • On the day of your assigned camp session, you must show proof of certification. We make a copy for our files and you keep the original. 
  • The cost of the class  will be in addition to the cost of leadership weekend, and the amount of the class can be added to the cost of Leadership. You can bring one check, made payable to Camp Winnataska
  • FYI, outside classes are usually much more expensive and longer. Just sayin'. :)
  • To sign up for a class, you fill out CPR section on the Leadership Form at the bottom of this page. 
  • If you were CPR certified LAST YEAR at Winnataska, we still have your CPR card on file.

Returning Leaders Dates:  April 1-2, 2017

Returning leaders:

  • Register in the Chico Dining Hall between 7:30 and  8:00am on Saturday, April 1, 2017.
  • Bring money or a check for $30 made payable to Camp Winnataska, and a health formdrug policy consent formvoluntary disclosure statement and background check consent form. (NOTE: Parents must sign, print these out at home and fill the out!)
  • You will check in at the Chico Dining Hall and then walk your stuff to your sleeping quarters. 
  • We'll officially begin at 8:15am, we will not be providing breakfast on April 1st.
  • If you will be arriving at a time other than the 7:30 - 8:00am window, please indicate this on the form.
  • If you arrive after 8am, walk your stuff to Chico Dining Hall. Check in with an adult volunteer. You will take your stuff to your sleeping quarters after our training is over. 
  • Carpooling is encouraged!
  • CPR will NOT be offered during the April weekend.

Departure:

  • Leaders will be dismissed after living quarters are cleaned and inspected, probably between 10:30 and 11 am.

  • Leaders will be able to use their cell phones to arrange for parent pick-up.

Make-up training: 

Leaders who can not attend either of the training weekends you must attend the make-up training session:

  • Friday, June 2 9:30 am - 4 pm at camp
  • Please fill out the Leadership Form below, indicating that you will attend the June session you will be attending, and details will be emailed closer to the date.

Cost: The cost for each Leadership Weekend is $30 for all materials, supplies, and food.

  • CPR class is an additional fee of $35.00. Check or cash is acceptable. (Checks can be made payable to Camp Winnataska and can be combined into one $65.00 check if you are paying both fees.)

What to expect: 

  • Leadership is mandatory for ALL LEADERS.  Questions can be directed to Ann Pickens on the form below. You can attend either the March or April session; however, it is highly encouraged that first year leaders attend the March session and returning leaders attend the April session.

  • All leaders are required to complete written materials and turn them in at the end of the weekend.

  • Leaders will receive a training manual and be expected to keep up with their manual.

  • On Saturday, small groups will rotate to stations with different topics.  Leaders are expected to listen, participate in discussion, and be respectful of the guest speakers.

  • Saturday evening we will have a worship service and free time after training. Leaders will be expected to stay in certain areas during free time (the gyvilion and the dining hall.)

  • Lights out is 12 am.

  • CPR will only be offered on Sunday morning March 5th.

  • All leaders will be expected to help clean up living quarters before check-out on Sunday morning. 

  • Cell phones should be kept in luggage and not used during the weekend, until it is time to be picked up.

  • No cars will be allowed past the camp gates.  Leaders and staff are expected to carry their luggage to their huts, so pack accordingly! 

  • Leaders who might need to arrive late/leave for any reason/leave early must sign-in and sign-out at the camp officeNo one will be able to leave without prior permission.

  • Failure to participate, complete materials, abide by expectations, keep curfew, or stay in assigned areas can result in dismissal.  All leaders are expected to comply with the Camp Covenant during Leadership.

For parents: 

  • We encourage leaders to carpool to training if at all possbible. If your son or daughter does not know anyone that is coming from your area, please email Ann Pickens (ann.winnataska@gmail.com) for possibilities.
  • The above arrival and departure times work best for the weekend, but with busy work, home, and travel schedules, we understand that you may not be able to arrive during our check-in windows.  Please make sure that we are aware of any late arrivals, departures, or exceptions to the registration times. (There is a section on the Leadership Form to let us know.) If you need help with logistics, please email Ann Pickens.
